Wow - what a week we have all had - from the great floods of 2019 - that saw roads in our area impassable, towns and villages sadly under water and the danger of what flood water brings, to today - a very cool but bright Sunday morning which brings light back into our lives and gives us our happy glow back again...
On Friday, the DWA held the wake of a true gentleman, great friend and local, Jim Scott. We gave him a fantastic send off, with plenty of Jim's favourite foods, beer and by the end of the night music. We are privledged to know such a fantastic man who is now dearly missed. Jim helped Tom with starting his pork pie business, and even after he has gone his legacy carries on. One of Jim's and Claire (his darling wife) favourite foods that we offered at the pub is our Calver Fried Chicken. We have now packaged the mix and it can be bought at the pub with cooking instructions - give it a try...
With the weather being miserable what else can you do - but experiment making your Christmas Mince Pies and making the table cloths ready for Christmas... It may only be November, but we are busy behind the scenes making Christmas perfect for you...
Work starts on our letting rooms this week - an advanced apology for any noise from the builders - we will be keeping the noise down to a minamum whilst the pub is open... over the next couple of months we will be sharing our journey into becoming an 'INN' for as far as we know the first time in the Derwentwater Arms' history.
